The Post 99 Kirkland Teen Center opened in 1999 at its present location at 138 5th Ave. Shortly thereafter, it was realized in order to have larger (plugged-in) concerts, a new location would need to be found. This new location was Saturday nights at the nearby Kirkland Senior Center. The first show was held in November 1999 with Soylent Green, the Jackie Chans, and others. Since then the KSC has consistently had monthly all-ages concerts, boasting such firsts as a Battle of the Bands, as well as our largest show to date with Death Cab for Cutie, Juno, and Waxwing. The KSC has become a premiere site on the Eastside for all-ages concerts and continues its tradition with the opening of the new Kirkland Teen Center in June 2001. |
The new Kirkland Teen Center, located conveniently next-door to the Senior Center, will offer many opportunities its predecessor did not. Included will be a larger stage, two "dance floors" with an ice cream/coffee shop, recording studio, and art room. Kirkland Teen Center will now be able to hold concerts more often as well as continue its programs which were always held at the Post 99.
